Observations of the Jigsaw Shapes
We can observe
from the above pattern that only two pieces of jigsaw shape are required to
make this entire jigsaw pattern.
Lets look at the
numbers:
1
Flipped
to the left becomes 4 then flipped vertically it becomes 2 then flipped right
it becomes 6 then flipped vertically again it comes back to its original
position in the number 1 slot. The way that it has its four flips can vary it
could be vertical first then right etc., whichever flip comes first the number
1 can become 4, 2, and 6. Draw a line between these four numbers and you get four-sided
shape but not a square. Cutting out the
bottom left corner.
2
Flipped
has to be flipped vertically first making it a number 3, then flipped left
becomes and 8 then another vertical flip it becomes 6 then flipped back to a
number 2. So associations for number 2 are 3, 8 and 6. Another four sided non
square shape that’s cuts out the top left hand corner.
3
Flipped
vertically becomes 9, flipped right becomes 6, flipped vertically becomes 8 and
then flipped left back to number 3. So associations with the number 3 are 9, 6
and 8. This shape cuts out the top left and right hand corners.
4
Flipped
right becomes 8, flipped vertically it becomes 6, flipped left it becomes 2 and
finally another vertical flip brings it back to 4. So associations of the
number 4 are 8, 6 and 2. A perfect
square that does not cut out any of the bagua.
5
5
remains 5 in all flips.
6
Flipped
left becomes 2, flipped vertically becomes a 3, flipped right becomes 8 and
back to 6 in its final flip. So associations of the number 6 are 2, 3 and 8.
7
Flipped
vertically becomes 8, flipped left becomes 3, flipped vertically becomes 2 and
flipped right returns to 7. So associations of 7 are 8, 3 and 2. An oblong
diagonal shape which cuts out the top left and the bottom right of the Bagua.
8
Flipped
vertically becomes 6, flipped right becomes 9, flipped vertically becomes 4 and
flipped left back to 8. So associations of 8 are 6, 9 and 4. This shape cuts
out the top right hand corner of the Bagua.
9
Flipped
right becomes 7, flipped vertically becomes 8, flipped left becomes 4 and
flipped vertically back to 9 position. So associations for 9 are 7, 8 and 4.This
shape cuts of top right hand corner and bottom right hand corner of the Bagua.
Having said all that if I make
an error I can easily become any other number as I found when doing the four
flips.
Associations :
1 2 4 6 **
2 3 6 8 *
3 6 8 9 ***
4 6 8 2 (only square) ****
5 – 5
6 8 2 3 *
7 8 2 3 ****
8 9 4 6 ***
9 4 7 8 **
1 and 9 Fire and Water both contain
Tree/Air, Metal and Earth ….. 2 and 6 are a match…. 3 Tree/Air contains 6 Metal, Earth and Fire
and 8 Earth
contains Metal, 4 Tree/Air and Fire….. 4 Tree/Air contains 6 metal and 2 and 8 Earth and 7
metal contains 2 and 8 Earth and 3 Tree/Air.
What might we make of all this?
