One way to work out your nine star ki year number is to take the number of the year you are born e.g.

1954....... add them together 1 + 9 + 5 + 4 = 19 reduce....... 1 + 9 = 10 .......take 10 from 11 and you have the number 1.....1 is the year number for 1954

1984 .......add them together 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 22 reduce....... 2 + 2 = 4....... take 4 from 11 and you have the number 7.......7 is the year number for 1984

...and so on the only problem here is January is classed as the year before so 1984 Jan you would count as Jan 1983........each month starts at different points usually between 4 and 7 days into the month. If you are born after that day then the chart above will work for you. As there can be doubts you can use a Nine Star Ki calculator to get both your year and month number I use Four Pillars website but any would do. Four Pillars gives you a Ming Gua number also but you can ignore that at the moment.....if you don’t know your time of birth put 12 noon. 

So I am born on 15th March, 1954 3pm .........so this gives me a year number of 1 and a month number of 7. So look in the chart above for the number 1 thats runs across the top horizontal line then look for March in the vertical column to the left and that will give you a number 7 for March in a 1 year........it also shows here your DNA Codon for me that is TGC. So I am a 1/7 Nine Star Ki with a TGC DNA Codon. 

So now you have your Nine Star Ki number. Another confusion because we wouldn’t want to make it too easy would we is the number 5. As you can see above number 5 does not appear in the list above and yet you can be born in a 5 year. If you are female change that 5 to a number 8 and if you are male change that 5 to a number 2. Hence so many variations on the numbers 2, 5 and 8 above.

Example your born in a 5 year male so you become 2 and your born in August ....look to the year number horizontal line for. 5 and change it to 2....then look to August In the 2 column ...It gives you all four variations on a theme of the number 5. 

So female 5/5 would become 8/8 and a male 2/2 a female born in a 5 year would become 8 and born in October would be a 3 month so a 5/3 would become a 8/3.

So now you are able to work out your Nine Star Ki numbers and also your DNA Codon letters. Two parts of the Hexagram information. Line one is now complete.
